So we braved the super-storm tonight. I think I was the only one who was casual about the whole thing, with a perfect plan of boring myself to sleep through the worst of it…and it worked!
The last my sleepy eyes recalled was the television turned on to Biography, my better half sitting at the dining room table with our son constructing some kind of Lego contraption together. The girls were playing with their Barbies and my teenager was…. well…somewhere in the house blasting her music.
When I woke up, the house was still. We maintained electricity throughout, thank Goddess. The children were happily occupying themselves, but Alex was nowhere to be found.
I stepped outside to see what the weather situation was, and to my half-asleep shock, there he was, in the middle of the yard, looking up at the sky as the wind blasted around us full force, screaming, “You call this a storm, you SOB??? You call this wind? My farts have more strength!”
Here is the Yin to my Yang. The Light in my Darkness. My Desi when I’m having a Lucy moment, in the middle of the front lawn, cheese sliding off his cracker…..
A number of scenarios went through my mind like a flash…kind of like your life does in the moment you think you are going to die…except this flash showed me Shady Pines, a white jacket and a rubber room.
So there I stood, watching this spectacle before me, eyebrow raised, arms crossed, not knowing whether to laugh or worry (he was standing under an oak tree after all) when he turned and looked at me, a smile on his face and said, “So, what do you think?”
“I think it’s a great way to piss off the Gods,” I replied.
Ten minutes later, the storm was over. The things that make you go, “Hmmm…”
