Charms and Sachets
Fill a small bag, of the correct colour or material, with herbs to make a charm bag or sachet. You can carry the charm with you, hang it in the house or car, or bury or burn it, depending on the purpose and the spell you are performing.
Incense
Herbs can be burned as a ritual incense, such as the sage smudge used to clear negative vibrations from a space.
Baths
Make a sachet, and place it in your ritual or healing bath. Fragrant herbs like lavender make a very relaxing bath and you can use certain herbs to alleviate skin and other conditions, such as using eucalyptus in a bath when you have a cold or flu.
Oils
Place herbs in an oil, let them steep for a few days, then strain. You can make anointing oils for your ritual work, beauty oils for your hair, skin and nails, or flower oils for cooking and seasoning, such as steeping rosemary in olive oil.
Teas
Use herbs to make teas for healing illnesses. Some herbs can be used to mildly alter consciousness.
Smoking
You can make herbal smoking mixtures which will also facilitate altered states of consciousness.
Magickal pot pourri
This is a great way to have herbal magick around the home without it screaming witchcraft at the top of its voice. Creating a mix of woods, herbs, florals and oils with magickal intent can be very pleasing and is great if you want to give a magickal gift to a non-magickal person. For example a good health spell to a non-wiccan parent. As long as you do not meddle with the recipients free-will and go against their wishes.
A spell mix to put inside a card
If you want to bless someone and let them know they are loved and cherished sprinkling a few florals or herbs into a birthday or goodwill card can make the recipient feel very special and by chioosing herbs with magickal intent you can bring power to your wishes for them.
A spell mix
You can use a spell mix to enhance magick and protection. I make a blessing salt that cleanses and consecrates an area before I perform a ritual. A simple one is chamomile, rose petals and lavender buds mixed with sea salt.
Poppets
Poppets are like pouches but you make the poppet to become an extension of the person. You may choose to add nail clippings or a lock of hair however, this is powerful magick and must be done in the full knowledge of the recipient and a poppet containing personal items should be cared for carefully. You can either treat the poppet the way the person needs to be treated to make them well or you can use the poppet to absorb the negativity from a person.
Lotions and Potions
Using lotions and potions can be an easy way of doing portable magick, because you make it in advance and carry it with you and use as needed. You can make them in many ways:
Powders
These are the easiest to make, choose your ingreients, grind them up then sprinkle as required.
Infusions or Teas
Easy to make and can be kept in bottles to sprinkle around as required. If you require them to be ingested ENSURE they are safe. If they are to be used as a wash or as as a perfume also check that they are not poisonous as some can be absorbed through the skin.
Decoctions
these are good for sprinkling potions.
Ointments
The most famous magickal ointment is the witches flying ointment but the original recipe induced an altered state of awareness because it was a) toxic and b) poisonous and made the witch hallucinate. More modern recipes aid a witch in astral travel and astral projection but if you want to try this be very vigilant and have someone who will look after you. You do not need a flying ointment to travel and I personally wouldn’t do it, but you are big girls and boys who must make up your own mind.
Bath teas
Pouches of herbs placed under running water can aid in meditation in the bath or can help prepare you for magickal work and ritual.
Magickal cosmetics, soaps and bath products
You can make bath bombs, soaps and cosmetics with magickal intent using herbs.
