This is my personal account of my 30-day juice fast in an attempt to reboot my body and unleash its great healing powers.
I’ve started with full body inflammation accompanied by extreme pain, headaches and migraines, not sleeping, feeling tired, weak and generally unhealthy. I started a vegetarian diet about three weeks before so this will be a great way to clear my body of the remaining meat products. Because I’m already skinny, I’m incorporating more fruit juices than most juice diets – I can’t afford to lose more weight. If you’re interested in this for the weight loss (which it is pretty good for), stick to the mean green juice and very little fruit (I’d say 70% vege, 30% fruit). Organic fruit and vege is much more expensive, almost twice the price, but that is the better choice. Also, invest in a good juicer, the juices tend to taste a bit better. For those who really need it, you can also add glucose to the juices, but this is not recommended if you are trying to lose the weight. I’m also alternating between water and juices. One bottle of juice, one bottle of water (32 oz bottle).
I’m not going for skinny. I’m going for healthy.

LAST SOLID MEAL: Vege pizza and cheesy breadsticks with tomato-salsa dipping sauce (Pizza Hut)
Okay, I MADE IT THROUGH ONE DAY!! The first day is already hard. I will not lie to you, I am hungry. But once my body gets used to not having solids, the hunger will subside. To make it worse, they’re making hamburgers at home.. and there is a tin of pasta sauce on the fridge with a photo of some yummy pasta… I’m not at the ‘kill for food’ stage yet, but I’m not far off.. I am hungry, I have a headache, my stomach aches and I have a severe chocolate craving. I have lost concentration and I’m very tired and sleepy.
OH GREAT UNIVERSE, GIVE ME THE COURAGE NOT TO KILL SOMEONE!!!
The first juice
4 Green apples
2 Red apples
It tastes really good! Loving this 🙂 But after sipping for two hours, my throat is malfunctioning… quite sore at the moment.
The main juice recipe:
Mean Green Juice (My version)
- 2 handfuls of Spinach
- 4 Stalks of Celery
- 1 Cucumber
- 2 Green Apples
- 1 small piece of ginger (like 1/2 inch)
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 1 small onion
This tastes pretty good… much better than it sounds! But if you’re not accustomed to the raw garlic and ginger, your tummy WILL ache. I know mine is 🙁
KEEPING MY EYE ON THE GOAL! (easier said than done)
Woke up starving, but more energised than I thought. My headache is still there. I’m looking at my juice like it’s the plague. Sipping it like a child taking medicine. Actually, it’s like medicine..
Tried a different juice this morning, doesn’t taste too bad, but it’s not omelette in a bottle if you know what I mean…
- 3 green apples
- 2 handfuls spinach

- 1/2 carrot
I have officially learned to gulp it down. Sipping it left me with a bottle of juice for hours… I can gulp it in about three or four goes..
At the end of day two, an old friend decided to pop in for a visit… His name… ULCER. I was getting some stomach pains earlier, accompanied by nausea and a feeling to throw up. I ignored it, thought it was all part of the detox process… until…. I felt a sharp pain in my side that I knew wasn’t right. I had some warm tea with no sugar or milk and the pains got worse, then better. When I got up about 30 minutes later, I felt as though my stomach was being wrung from the inside like how you wring laundry. I knew something was not right. So, I had a banana, 15 mins later a slice of bread and another banana and within an hour the severe pains subsided.
Broken Luna is just not supposed to do something as drastic as this, but it has brought to light many of my past eating habits and how to correct them. I’m okay, just really damn hungry now LOL.
To those interested, make sure you talk to your doctor first.. and just be careful of any past issues that will suddenly arise, like mine which I completely forgot about.
