Focusing on the Psychic Image
The unseen is with you all the time, as it is with everyone. It is a reality that is waiting to manifest itself. When you focus on it, you have brought it to a different form of reality, one that has been manifested. It is good to remember that others may not see what you see. The unseen is there to help guide and teach you.
When you want to focus on the second-sight image, you need to first relax and focus on nothing in particular — just as you do when you are looking at a hologram and want to see both pictures. When you have identified the second-sight image, you can begin to focus on it.
Your psychic image may begin as a vague picture that superimposes itself over your reality image. If you are in a convenient location and situation, you may find that closing your eyes and focusing on your third eye will help you to sharpen your second psychic image. Remember to keep yourself grounded in your Belief and let yourself be protected by the Golden Light of the Universe.
It is possible to become so focused on the psychic image that you forget how to refocus on your reality image. If you feel this happening to you, take a deep breath, exhale, and release your focus on the psychic image.
Discerning Auras
As you have already learned, an aura is an energy field that surrounds all living things as well as places, events, and objects. Although the feeling of the aura is important, so is its visual form. Auras may be seen in colors or simply in wavy colorless lines. If you can see an aura, you have been given an opportunity to gain a wealth of knowledge about many different situations and conditions that others may not have access to.
It is also possible for some of you to see auras of objects. You may be able to see negative or positive energies coming from particular places or personal belongings. If you can see this type of aura, you are sensing the energies of people that have been absorbed by inanimate objects. Some of you may even be able to change a negative aura into a positive one.
Working with Your Gift
Psychic visual experiences differ from person to person. Your particular vision may come from either inside yourself or from an outside source. The goal here is to encourage you to identify, develop, and work with your visual psychic abilities. And the first step is to identify how you see.
It is very possible that you may have a gift of second sight that is different from those addressed in this chapter. Your mind is special and unique. It does have psychic abilities, but they may or may not be visual. If you do have the gift of clairvoyance, it is likely connected to one or more of your other four senses.
Second-Sight Exercises
The following exercises will help you identify and begin working with your visual psychic abilities. Although you can do these exercises on your own, it can be both fun and educational to do them in a group setting. When you compare your second sight to that of others, you may be amazed at how different or similar they are. You can always record the scripts and play them back, or have another person read them out loud.
You can also experience them as you read them to yourself. When you begin to practice psychic development exercises, it is very important for you to be in tune with your physical, mental, and spiritual self. This includes being spiritually grounded, in the proper frame of mind, and having a full stomach.
What’s Under Your Eyelids?
You may begin this exercise by finding a place that is comfortable and relaxing for you. You can either sit or lie down. When you’re ready, take a deep breath, exhale slowly, and let your eyes go out of focus as you concentrate for a moment on your third-eye chakra. You may take a few moments and experience the rest of your energy centers coming into balance. As you continue to breathe slowly in and out, you may feel the loving and peaceful energy of the Universe entering your body. You may feel a protective bubble of universal golden light surrounding you as you examine your psychic gifts of second sight.
When you are comfortable and ready, focus your mind’s eye on the images that are behind your eyelids. You may see an image clearly, or it may be out of focus. It is possible that the images you see are moving so fast that it is hard to focus on any one of them. If that is the case, allow yourself to relax even more and begin to slow down the speed of your images. This may be hard to do at first, but as you continue to practice, you should be able to bring your images into sync with your focus.
If you are able to see images under your eyelids, what are they? How do they compare to the different types of second sight that were discussed earlier in this chapter? Are they similar or different? Are your images comfortable or uncomfortable? If an image is uncomfortable, can you change it to another image?
Can you interpret your images to understand their meanings? You might ask your Universal Mind to help provide you with answers to any questions you may have. The answer may not come right away. Be patient, and remain alert to your insights. The answers may come from within or without.
You may not have any images at all, and if so, that’s okay. Clairvoyance may not be your psychic strength. It is possible that you could see colors behind your eyelids. It might be one color, or different colors that appear in various shapes or forms.
Can you get images about the past or the future? Can you see your guides, or angels? Do you have images that relate to health or to your Higher Power? Are there any other images that you can see under your eyelids, and can their meanings be understood? When you are ready, take a deep breath, exhale, and return to consciousness in a positive relaxed mood.
Dream Imagery
Another exercise is to explore your dreams. As you relax and concentrate on your third eye, think about the dreams you’ve recently had. Do you dream in pictures? If so, are your dreams symbolic, realistic, or do you experience both types? Do you travel to and explore places in your dreams? Do you dream of past lives or future events? Do you see guides, angels, or loved ones who have passed over in your dreams?
Another great way to work with your psychic intuition is simply to close your eyes and imagine. You might imagine a story with a theme that relates to your current life or from any point in time. Through this exercise, you may find insights that relate to your life. Imagination is often a great method for finding the truth.
See the Second Image with Your Eyes Open
Have you ever had a second-sight experience when your eyes were wide open? If so, it may seem natural to you. If you rarely do or have not had the opportunity to experience it, however, here is a suggestion for an exercise to try. Allow yourself to enter a relaxed state as you focus for a moment on your breathing.
Focus on your third-eye chakra. Your eyes will go slightly out of focus as you put yourself into a light hypnotic trance. You may suggest to yourself that you are comfortable and open to the psychic images that are waiting to help you grow in your intuitive development. Let your mind drift as you enjoy your connection to your visual energy center.
You may begin to be aware of a second image in your visual screen. Wait patiently and let this image slowly become clearer and clearer as it comes into focus. Let yourself see it clearly as you watch from the safety of your protective bubble of golden light. Allow yourself to watch and process this image, and know that you can end it anytime you want and return relaxed and positive to your conscious mind.
Keep a record of what you see and when you see it. Does your second sight relate to the past or the future? Are there times and places where it is easier to get these images? Can you look at a person and see energy or auras around her? Do the auras change?
Can you look into a person’s body and see a medical problem? Can you create a healing image? Can you project your mind’s eye to a remote location and see what is happening at that very time there?
Keep a Record of Your Experiences
As you begin to develop your psychic abilities, keep a record of what you experience. Just like learning or honing any skill, the more you practice, the sharper and stronger your second sight will become.
At first, you may not receive many images — or you may get so many that they confuse you. Remember, patience is the key word. After all, what you are doing is getting back in touch with natural psychic gifts that have been with you for a very long time.

Keys to Clairvoyance
Author: Doreen Virtue
When most people think of a psychic, they probably imagine an exotic-looking woman peering into a crystal ball. She wears giant hoop earrings and a long, flowing dress. In a mysteriousforeign accent, she reveals what she sees in your future—usually for a steep fee.
Yet, you can be your own psychic, by developing your own natural power to see the future. The word, “clairvoyance,” means “clear seeing.” In other words, a clairvoyant clearly sees the truth about the past, present, and future. You’ve probably experienced clairvoyance yourself, and may not have even known it. Common clairvoyant instances include:
You have a vivid dream which later comes true.
You lose your keys or wallet. Then, a picture of the place where you left the item flashes into your mind.
As you’re driving, you see a mental image of the car ahead of you turning left. Two minutes later, the car turns left exactly as you’d mentally imaged.
You suddenly see an image of a person in your mind’s eye. Later that day, you receive a call or a letter from that person.
These experiences of clairvoyance are quite normal and often very useful. Even more, you can learn how to increase your clairvoyant power so that it becomes a reliable tool for everyday living.
We enhance and improve clairvoyance, like any behavior, with learning and practice. If you follow the seven steps listed below and practice them for seven days in a row, you’ll experience more consistent and reliable clairvoyant images.
STEP 1: Release the Fears of Seeing the Future.
My psychic development students usually recall being clairvoyant when they were children. In fact, studies show that young people have the highest rates of clairvoyance of any age group.
However, children often “turn off” their clairvoyance because of fear. This fear could come from a thoughtless remark by adults who say the child’s invisible friend is his imagination (when, in truth, the child is seeing angels and spirit guides). Sometimes, parents tell their children that psychic insights are evil. Or, the child may see a frightening image of her parent’s impending divorce, or some other painful future event. She then shuts her clairvoyant vision, because she doesn’t want to see her future.
Whatever the source of fear, we must release this emotion to regain our full clairvoyant power. One of the best ways to rid yourself of fear-blocks is through saying an affirmative phrase. Sit in a comfortable position and take two or three very deep and slow breaths. As you breathe in and out, say these words either silently or aloud: “I am willing to release all fear of seeing my future.”
STEP 2: Formulate Your Question in a Specific Way.
Accurate clairvoyant answers require accurately-stated questions.
Carefully word your questions so you’ll receive an answer that truly meets your needs. The best way is to be honest with yourself about your “bottom line” true desires.
For example, you might ask, “Will I meet someone at the dance tonight?” and then see a clairvoyant image of yourself talking with a new person who isn’t your romantic type. A better question would be, “Will I meet my next romantic partner at the dance tonight?” Your question can have as many details as you like.
STEP 3: Breathe and Concentrate Upon Your “Third Eye”.
After asking your question, take three deep and slow breaths. Put your focus on the area between your two eyes. This is an energy center, known as a “chakra,” which activates clairvoyance. This chakra area contains a “third eye,” which supplies psychic pictures in answer to your questions.
As you breathe, look for and notice an oval shape resting horizontally between your two eyes. Notice whether this “third eye” has its eyelid closed, open, or partially open. If the eyelid is closed or partially closed, ask it to open. Reaffirm your willingness to release the fear of seeing psychically. Once the eye is open, you will be rewarded with a blissful feeling of warm love, as you are reunited with a long-lost part of yourself.
STEP 4: Notice any Pictures that Enter Your Mind.
Clairvoyant images generally come in one of four ways: as a single picture inside your mind’s eye; as a single picture that you see outside your mind’s eye; as a movie image inside your head; or a movie image outside your head. The pictures can be black and white or full color. Sometimes, they may appear as a painting or a cartoon.
STEP 5: Increase the Brightness and Size of the Images.
Simply think this phrase, “Pictures, I ask that you grow in size and strength, NOW!” With your powerful intention and decision, the clairvoyant pictures will instantly become larger, brighter, and bolder. Bigger and more colourful pictures are easier to interpret. If this step seems to give you trouble, repeat Step 1 above.
STEP 6: Ask For Interpretation and Clarification.
You need to know the meaning of your clairvoyant images in order to interpret them and put them to good use. If you are unsure of what your psychic pictures are trying to tell you, ask either mentally or aloud, “What do these pictures mean?” You will receive an answer as a feeling, thought, or sound. If the answer is unclear, ask that it be repeated or delivered to you in a different way. The spirit world wants to help you receive psychic information, and they will work with you until you clearly understand the answers to your questions.
STEP 7: Trust in What You See.
This last step is crucial, because if you discount your clairvoyant images or write them off as mere imagination, they are lost opportunities. You’ll gain more confidence in your psychic abilities if you keep a record of your clairvoyant images. Be sure to keep track of each psychic image that comes true. In this way, you’ll learn how reliable your clairvoyance truly is. You’ll also understand your personal symbology, as each person’s clairvoyant psyche uses a unique set of pictures to symbolize different meanings.

Clairvoyance through history
There have been anecdotal reports of clairvoyance and claims of clairvoyant abilities on the part of some throughout history in most cultures. Most of these episodes are experienced during young adulthood.Often these have been associated with religious figures, offices, and practices. For example, ancient Hindu religious texts list clairvoyance as one of the siddhis, skills that can be acquired through appropriate meditation and personal discipline. But a large number of anecdotal accounts of clairvoyance are of the spontaneous variety among the general populace. For example, many people report instances of “knowing” in one form or another when a loved one has died or was in danger before receiving notification through normal channels that such events have taken place. Similar presentiments that are not eventually fulfilled are soon forgotten, however. While anecdotal accounts do not provide scientific proof of clairvoyance, such common experiences continue to motivate research into such phenomena.
Clairvoyance was one of the phenomena reported to have been observed in the behavior of somnambulists, people who were mesmerized and in a trance state (nowadays equated with hypnosis by most people) in the time of Franz Anton Mesmer. The earliest recorded report of somnambulistic clairvoyance is credited to the Marquis de Puységur, a follower of Mesmer, who in 1784 was treating a local dull-witted peasant named Victor Race. During treatment, Victor reportedly would go into trance and undergo a personality change, becoming fluent and articulate, and giving diagnosis and prescription for his own disease as well as those of other patients, and forgetting everything when he came out of the trance state. All this is in a manner reminiscent of the reported behaviors of the 20th century medical clairvoyant and psychic Edgar Cayce. It is reported that although Puységur used the term ‘clairvoyance’, he did not attribute any of this to the paranormal since he accepted mesmerism as one of the natural sciences.
Clairvoyance was in times following a reported ability of some mediums during the spiritualist period of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and was one of the aspects studied by members of the Society for Psychical Research (SPR). Psychics of many descriptions have claimed clairvoyant ability up to the present day.
While experimental research into clairvoyance began with SPR researchers, experimental studies became more systematic with the efforts of J. B. Rhine and his associates at Duke University, and such research efforts continue to the present day. Perhaps the best-known study of clairvoyance in recent times was the US government-funded remote viewing project at SRI/SAIC during the 1970s through the mid-1990s.
Results of some parapsychological studies, such as the remote viewing studies, suggest that clairvoyance does not exist – the original “remote viewing” study was discontinued by the Stanford Research Institute due to lack of evidence. However there are as yet no satisfactory experiments designed that cleanly separate the various manifestations of ESP. Some parapsychologists have proposed that our different functional labels (clairvoyance, telepathy, precognition) all refer to one basic underlying mechanism, although there is not yet any satisfactory theory for what that mechanism would be.
Clairvoyance as a term has its origins from the French word claire, which means “clear”, and voyance, “seeing”. It literally means ‘clear seeing’ in French.
There is ongoing criticism and debate of all these results in the literature.
